Who we are

Discovery was created with you in mind. Yes, you.

Whether you are still exploring your faith or have been out of church for awhile, we promise that you will feel at home from the moment you walk into our doors.  We are unique in that people from all different walks of life worship under our roof. We exist so that everyone has an opportunity to experience God for themselves.

Discovery is a church where change takes place.

We like to say that Jesus invites you to come as you are, but He  loves you way too much to let you stay the same.  When people encounter God in a real way, they can't help but change. At Discovery, we get to see God changing lives every. single. week.

Dan Alarcon serves as Discovery's Lead Pastor. Prior to assuming the lead pastorate in 2006, Dan’s passion for the next generation led him to serve in Youth Ministries for more than a decade as well as promoting Christian concerts in the Midwest.

Dan is known for bringing passionate, humorous, messages that make the Bible understandable and Jesus real to a generation.

He and his wife Laura have been married for 18 years and enjoy living a block away from the Church in downtown Elgin. They are excited to be a part of the revitalization  downtown. Together they enjoy biking, trying out new restaurants, and helping people connect to Christ in a real way.

What we believe

Discovery Church is a Christ centered, non denominational church.

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and

applicable to our everyday lives.

We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.

We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and perfect life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again

to prove His victory over sin and death and to empower us for life.

We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and ‘new birth’ we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.

We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues.

We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together for fellowship and prayer and worship.

We believe that God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve

His purpose for our lives which is:  to worship God, fulfill our role in the Church

and serve our community.

We believe that God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and blessed lives in order to help others more effectively.

We believe that our eternal destination of either Heaven or hell is determined by our

response to the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.
