21 Day fasting & prayer  -  day 21

Over the next 21 days, many in our Discovery Church family are going to unite and participate in a powerful spiritual discipline called a FAST (refraining from physical food for a spiritual purpose). We will be going through a fast known as the Daniel Fast in which we cut the carbs & comfort foods and eat 'clean'--primarily fruit, vegetables and water. This fast is based in the Old Testament book of Daniel. 

  • The Focus

    Fasting is a spiritual discipline designed to connect us more deeply with God. It involves giving up something PHYSICAL (ie: comfort food) for the sake of gaining something SPIRITUAL (ie: more of God). Starting on Monday, January 5th we will sacrifice some of our regular food intake and replace it with Bible reading, prayer and seeking God. It’s not about us getting more of God, but about God getting more of us.

  • The Fast

    1. 21 Day Daniel Fast: Follow the Daniel Fast diet of no meats, sweets, bread, alcohol, soda or caffeine...and instead eat fruits, vegetables, and drink water!

    2. Modified Fast: Fasting sunup to sundown (or one meal a day) for the next 21 days. Abstain from alcohol, soda and caffeine. You can modify the fast by adding protein, such as chicken. 

    3. Non-Food Fast: Consider giving up social media (Insta, FB, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat etc) and video games (Fortnite, Final Fantasy, League of Legends, Mindcraft, Roblox etc).

  • The Finish

    Start: Monday, January 5th

    Each Sunday during the fast Pastor Dan will preach messages that will encourage and challenge us during the fast.

    Finish: Sunday, January 25th

    We will gather and end the fast together with worship and water baptisms. What an incredible 21 Days of Fasting this will be!

Returning, Renewing, and Rebuilding

To realign our lives and our church around God’s presence, 

purify our hearts, and seek clarity for the year ahead.

  • “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”


    Reflect: Where is God inviting me to return? 


    Respond: Write one area you're turning back to Him today.

  • Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.


    Reflect: What hidden places need God’s light? 


    Respond: Pray honestly about one thing He reveals.

  • Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.


    Reflect: What needs cleansing or renewing? 


    Respond: Ask God to purify your motives today.

  • “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”


    Reflect: What old pattern is God asking you to release? 


    Respond: Name it — and surrender it.

  • For if you forgive other people when they sin against you,

    your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

    But if you do not forgive others their sins,

    your Father will not forgive your sins.


    Reflect: Who do you need to forgive?


    Respond: Pray blessing over that person.

  • But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,

    and all these things will be given to you as well.


    Reflect: What has been taking first place?


    Respond: Rearrange one priority today.

  • Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.


    Reflect: Where do you need rest?


    Respond: Schedule intentional stillness today.

  • Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.


    Reflect: What thought patterns need renewing?


    Respond: Replace one lie with God’s truth.

  • I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.


    Reflect: Where do you feel weak? 


    Respond: Ask the Spirit for strength in that area.

  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!


    Reflect: What “old thing” tries to cling to you? 


    Respond: Declare your identity in Christ.

  • My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.


    Reflect: How is God speaking today?


    Respond: Write down one thing you sense Him saying.

  • Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.


    Reflect: Where are you walking in your own strength? 


    Respond: Invite the Spirit to lead your decisions today.

  • So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.


    Reflect: What fear is holding you back? 


    Respond: Pray courage over that area.

  • “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.”


    Reflect: What battle needs worship? 


    Respond: Spend 3 minutes praising God out loud.

  • “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time…”


    Reflect: What vision is God stirring in you? 


    Respond: Write it down clearly.

  • "They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated."


    Reflect: What part of your life needs rebuilding? 


    Respond: Ask God to restore what’s broken.

  • “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.


    Reflect: Where do you feel tired in the work? 


    Respond: Ask God for renewed strength.

  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”


    Reflect: What step of obedience requires courage? 


    Respond: Commit to taking that step today.

  • I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.


    Reflect: Who needs your prayers today? 


    Respond: Intercede for them by name.

  • Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”


    Reflect: Where is God sending you? 


    Respond: Say yes to His assignment.

  • The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.


    Reflect: What has God done in these 21 days? 


    Respond: Write a testimony of gratitude.
